1. About these Terms
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) are the agreement between you and Matchwik (“Matchwik”, “we”, “us”) for your use of the Matchwik website and mobile app (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them, and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Matchwik.
Please read them together with our Responsible Play page and How points work page, which explain how pools are scored and paid.
2. Who can use Matchwik
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract.
- You must use Matchwik only where doing so is lawful for you. You are responsible for checking the laws that apply to you.
- You may hold one account. It must be in your own name and use accurate details, which you keep up to date.
- You must not use Matchwik if we have previously closed or excluded your account, or if you have asked us to exclude you.
3. What Matchwik is
Matchwik is a peer-to-peer prediction platform for football. You predict results of real fixtures and stake money against other people, not against Matchwik. We provide the platform, hold stakes in escrow while a Contest or pool is running, settle it from official results, and pay the winners.
- Contests are one-to-one predictions. One person creates a Contest with a prediction and a stake; another accepts it. Contests can be public, sent to a friend, or private to a Circle.
- Circles are private groups. A Circle’s owner and admins can run Gameweek Pools: members each pay an entry fee, make picks across a gameweek, and are ranked by points.
We are not a party to any prediction between users. Nothing on Matchwik is financial advice or a guarantee of any outcome.
4. Your account and security
- You can sign up with an email address and password, or with your Google account. Some features need your email or phone number to be verified first.
- Keep your password and devices secure. You are responsible for everything done through your account, and you must tell us straight away at support@matchwik.com if you think someone else has accessed it.
- After repeated failed sign-in attempts we temporarily lock the account to protect it.
- Your username is shown to other players. You can change it in Settings, subject to a limit on how often. Do not choose a name that impersonates someone else or is offensive.
5. Wallet, deposits and withdrawals
- Your Matchwik wallet holds money in Nigerian Naira. Stakes are taken from it and winnings are paid into it.
- Deposits are made through our payment partners (currently Paystack and Flutterwave) by card, bank transfer or USSD. A deposit is credited once the payment provider confirms it. Provider or bank charges, if any, are shown by them.
- Withdrawals go to a Nigerian bank account in your own name. To withdraw you must complete identity verification (a verified NIN at minimum). Verification levels carry limits on how much you can deposit, stake and withdraw.
- Withdrawals are reviewed and processed by us and can take time. We may delay, hold or refuse a deposit or withdrawal to carry out security or compliance checks, or where we suspect fraud, money laundering or a breach of these Terms.
- Money in your wallet is not a bank deposit and does not earn interest.
6. Contests
- When you create a Contest, your stake is locked in your wallet. If nobody accepts it before it is cancelled or the match kicks off, the stake is unlocked and returned.
- When someone accepts, both stakes are moved into escrow. Neither player can take them back. The person accepting must pick a different result from the creator (home win, draw or away win).
- You cannot accept your own Contest. A Contest sent to a friend can only be accepted or declined by that friend.
- After the match, the Contest is settled automatically from the final result reported by our sports data provider. Whoever picked the correct result wins the pot, less our platform fee. If the match ends in a result neither of you picked (for example a draw when one of you picked the home win and the other the away win), or the match is voided, both stakes are returned in full and no fee is taken.
- A Contest that nobody accepts by kick-off expires and its stake is returned.
7. Circles and Gameweek Pools
- Anyone with a Circle’s invite code can join it, unless the Circle is frozen. Joining a Circle is free; entering a pool costs the pool’s entry fee.
- A Circle’s owner and admins set up pools: the league and gameweek, the entry fee, an optional cap on entrants, and how the prize is shared between finishing positions. The owner can promote and remove admins; owners and admins can remove members. Circle admins are players, not Matchwik staff.
- Entry fees are held in the pool’s escrow. Picks lock one hour before the earliest kick-off of the gameweek, and settings such as fee and payouts freeze at that point.
- Each correct pick earns points, worth the amounts shown on How points work. Points are the same in every Circle. Entrants are ranked by total points once every fixture in the gameweek has a final result.
- Prizes are paid by finishing position, after our platform fee. Entrants tied on points share the combined prize of the positions they occupy equally. If the pool’s payout settings do not hand out the whole pool (for example fewer people entered than there are paid positions), the remaining share is divided equally among the winners who are paid, so the whole pool is always paid out.
- If nobody entered a pool before it locked, it is closed with nothing to pay. If a pool is voided, every entry fee is refunded. Removing a member from a Circle does not cancel picks or entry fees they have already made.
8. Fees
Matchwik deducts a platform fee from winnings when a Contest or pool is settled. The current rate is published on How points work. We may change the rate; the rate in force when a Contest or pool is settled is the one that applies. Joining a Circle, browsing fixtures and making picks are free. Payment providers and banks may charge their own fees on deposits and withdrawals, which are shown by them.
9. Results, corrections, postponements and voids
- Results, scores and fixture details come from third-party sports data providers. We settle on the final result they report.
- If a result is corrected after settlement, or a provider reports something clearly wrong, we may review and correct affected Contests and pools, including reversing or adjusting payouts, acting reasonably.
- If a fixture is postponed, abandoned or cancelled, or the data for it cannot be relied on, we may void the affected Contests or pools and return the stakes.
- Matchwik’s decision on how a Contest or pool settles is final, subject to the dispute process below and your legal rights.
10. Disputes and complaints
If you think a Contest was settled wrongly you can open a dispute from that Contest in the app, or email support@matchwik.com with your Contest code or pool details. A disputed Contest is held while our team reviews it, and we may resolve it manually. For any other complaint, email us; we will acknowledge it and reply as soon as we reasonably can.
11. What you must not do
- Hold more than one account, or use someone else’s account, identity, bank account or payment method.
- Fix, manipulate or share inside information about a match, or work with others to rig a Contest or pool.
- Launder money, finance crime or evade limits or verification checks.
- Use bots, scripts or other automation, or exploit a bug, instead of playing normally. Report bugs to us.
- Harass, threaten or abuse other players, including inside Circles.
- Interfere with the Service or try to access anything you are not meant to.
12. Suspending or closing accounts and Circles
We may restrict, suspend or close an account, or freeze or remove a Circle, if we reasonably believe these Terms have been broken, the law requires it, or to protect players. A frozen Circle cannot take new members or start new pools; existing members can still submit picks in a gameweek already under way. Where we can, we will return money you are entitled to, less anything owed because of the breach.
You can ask us to close your account at any time by emailing support@matchwik.com. Withdraw your balance first; open Contests and pools must finish or be voided before closure.
13. Content and intellectual property
The Matchwik name, logo, software and design belong to us. Team names, crests and league marks belong to their owners and are shown for identification only. You keep ownership of what you post (such as your bio) and give us permission to display it to run the Service.
14. Our responsibility to you
We provide the Service “as is” and work to keep it running, but cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. We rely on payment, data and messaging providers outside our control. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, and our total liability for a claim is limited to the amount in your wallet and any stakes involved in the matter. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will show the new date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Matchwik after a change means you accept it.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Nigerian courts have jurisdiction, without affecting any rights you have under mandatory consumer law.
